Pennsylvania Police to ramp up “DUI enforcement” this Holiday Weekend

This holiday weekend Pennsylvania state and municipal police will conduct an increased number of DUI checkpoints and roving patrols. Here is an update from a local newspaper:

Police plan DUI enforcement for Thanksgiving weekend

York, PA – Two sobriety checkpoints are planned for York County during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend, according to two news releases.

Pennsylvania State Police, along with several municipal departments, will work with the Pennsylvania DUI Association to conduct the checkpoints, according to a news release.

“The goal of the checkpoint is to deter drivers who are drinking or using drugs/prescriptions from getting behind the wheel and placing other motorists at risk,” the news release states.

Also this Thanksgiving, the Center for Traffic Safety rolls out its Operation Safe Holiday initiative, holding sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols in York, Adams and Lancaster counties between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 p.m. Monday.

“The night before Thanksgiving, the holiday itself, the night after Thanksgiving, and the day and night before buck season are all high-incidence time periods for DUI crashes,” said Wayne Harper, the center’s director. “Motorists can expect enhanced enforcement activity to take place at any time during the six-day period, including mid-week.”
